What's Up With Those Marvel X-Men Legacy Numbers Then?

Yesterday, Bleeding Cool posted an article about some messed up legacy numbering on Marvel's titles. Turns out some of our readers were already ahead of us.
Mathew Folwell posted in the comments;

As I recall, #16 was given legacy number #638 in the solicits, as if the War of the Realms mini fit in before the final chapter of the This is Forever arc. I guess someone caught it and corrected #16 (or Rosenberg tweaked his plans, necessitating the change), but then missed shunting back the War of the Realms number for some reason.It's a pity they screwed it up. I thought it was a nice touch that this (and Avengers: No Road Home — although they got it right there, as far as I know) had been given legacy numbers that clarify where it slots in (and, theoretically at least, that it's not just disposable fluff — at least no moreso than the core book).

While Blaine Huffman posted,

I emailed Jordan White last week and he confirmed they goofed. Uncanny X-Men #16 was suppose to be #638 since the storyline takes place after the War of the Realms Mini-Series. If you look on comicstore.marvel.com they have the trade dress for issue #17 and it's legacy number is #639. The War of the Realms mini-series is #635-637.I hope if they do decide to relaunch Uncanny X-Men after House of X, they just stick with the legacy number. It's way less confusing.

And so it is. Maybe they'll fix it for the inevitable second printing of #16…
