ComiXology Bestseller List, 12th April 2019 – The Sales Success of Lois Lane and Catwoman In a Hot Tub Together

Most people take it slow after their 80th birthday, but most people aren't Batman. The Dark Knight takes 3 out of the top 4 spots this week, leading DC to a big victory in the Top 10 this week. The final score is:

DC: 42

Marvel: 13

So even if Batman had not been delayed, DC would have still easily won. So this win confirms what we already knew: Batman is still DC's best ongoing comic, and putting a naked Catwoman and Lois Lane in a hot tub together guarantees you a victory. (Quick, DC! You can still save New Age of Heroes with this strategy!)

Anyways, on slightly more chaotic weeks like this, where a Hulk and Shazam sale have disrupted the Top 25, it's important to remember the New Issue Rankings are your best reference to how well your favorite comics are doing. Massive sales come and go and big event issues will linger for another week, but comparing new issues is straightforward and simple. And when a comic rises 10 points in the NIR in just three weeks, it shows…. Wait, what?

Well would you look at that: Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, the comic I put on Drop Watch three weeks ago along with Aquaman, has made a dramatic recovery, and its now in an better position than it was in its debut. How could this happen? Well clearly, it must be because so many people read this article, Spidey-fans all over the world rallied and…

Oh, it's the big Aunt May issue that's been teased for months. Sigh… I suppose that's also plausible.

It's not surprising at all that big Spidey moments aren't taking place in the main title anymore, because ASM doesn't need them. As we can see from this week, Nick Spencer has done a great job keeping readers hooked so far. It's the unwieldy secondary Spidey books that need the boost. It's why (SPOILER) Pete revealed his identity to JJJ in Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man. And yes, I still put spoiler warnings on things that happened a year ago. Hell, I still won't post any spoilers for The Wire, and that ended in 2008.

Ya' know… in case a certain someone reading wants to watch it with me, like they said they would, but they never seem to have the time. And even though it's on streaming, you still put the DVD out as hint, but they never take it. And you tell them it's ok, it's just a show. But deep down it's eating you up inside…

Where was I? Oh yes, uh… Catwoman has dropped below the Squirrel Girl line, putting it in danger, though I imagine its relatively higher Diamond chart numbers will keep it safe for the time being.
