'The Prom': Ryan Murphy Announces Netflix Broadway Musical Feature Adapt
Creative power-house Ryan Murphy (American Horror Story, Pose, Glee) continues flexing his Netflix muscle, this time moving forward on a feature film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical The Prom. Prior to Tuesday night's charity performance of The Prom for the Hetrick-Martin Institute, GLAAD, and the Trevor Project at NYC's Longacre Theatre, Murphy made the announcement – though it is still not clear if he will write, produce, or both.
From director-choreographer Casey Nicholaw and loosely based on a real-life incident, The Prom follows a troupe of hilariously self-obsessed theater stars who swarm a small conservative Indiana town in support of a high school girl who wants to take her girlfriend to the prom. Jack Viertel developed the concept, with a book by Bob Martin and Chad Beguelin, music by Matthew Sklar, and lyrics by Beguelin. Bill Damaschke, Dori Berinstein, and Jack Lane serve as producers.

A film adaptation of The Prom is just one of many projects Murphy has in play at Netflix, including Ben Platt-starrer The Politician premiering September 27 and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest prequel series Ratched with Sarah Paulson, as well as Hollywood.
