ComiXology Bestseller List – 29th March 2019 – This Week's Top Selling Comic May Surprise You

Welcome to the ComiXology Bestseller list, your guide to see how well your favorite titles are selling digitally. Every week I'll post the ranking of every new title, plus a ranking of the best selling volumes & graphic novels. As always, I hope you find it interesting and informative.

80 years of Batman. Just think about that for a second. 80 years. That's well over twice my age. Did Bob Kane and Bill Finger ever wonder how big their creation would get?

Yes, it was in 1939 The Bat-Man first appeared in Detective Comics #27, sharing the spotlight with Speed Saunders, Buck Marshall, Bart Regan, The Crimson Avenger, Bruce Nelson, The Insidious Dr. Fu Manchu, Cosmo The Phantom of Disguise, and Slam Bradley. (Wonder if Bruce still talks to those guys?) [Rich adds – yes, one of them]

And now, in a truly historic week for comics, Detective Comics #1000 hits the marketplace. [Rich adds – including Slam Bradley] And just like Action Comics #1000 before it, this special issue takes the top…… wait a minute…. well this is awkward. Heroes in Crisis takes the No. 1 spot this week, with Detective Comics right behind.

This just goes to show how well Heroes in Crisis is selling. And yes, we're talking about a $4 issue versus a $10 issue, but this is Detective Comics #1000! Landmark issues like this don't come every week. Although because it was such a landmark issue, it might have had much more physical appeal than digital. Still, I'd consider this an upset.

Anyway, both titles lead DC to a big victory in the Top 10, beating Marvel 39-16. (6-4 if you're still going by the old rules). Marvel is still getting very strong sales out of Fantastic Four and Amazing Spider-Man, but alas, Batman and Superman still remain kings of the digital arena. And I don't see that changing any time soon…
