Marvel puts two Age Of X-Man comics out today, Marvelous X-Men #2 and Apocalypse And The X-Tracts #1 as we start to realise we're in for the long haul on this one. The details of this reality continue to play out. No sex, no family, no personal relationships at all, certainly no love. Everyone is born in vitro, everyone is now a mutant. There were battles, famously one in which Hope, Cyclops and Wolverine died, but they have now all been fought, there is no one else to punch and the X-Men are pacifists as a result. But also, and possibly as a result of Kitty Pryde, there is no religion. So in this reality, Kitty Pryde does not even know what a menorah is…

And so we have Apocalypse, the big bad of the Marvel mutant universe, now its potential saviour, repositioned as some kind of super-hippy-psychedelic, going all Timothy Leary on us…

It's just not quite as snappy as the phrase Leary's colleague and Canadian philosopher Marshall McLuhan came up with. But it probably hits the psychedelic spot. But it looks like, unlike much of the hippy movement at the time, Apocalypse keeps his clothes firmly on.
