Today sees the publication of Die!Die!Die! #8 by Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple and Chris Burnham from Skybound/Image Comics With an impending threat upon the White House on the revealed cover for the issue in question.

But who is inside the White House? Previous issues had established that Obama was President…

…and was a President at risk.

Though he has survived so far…

…but it seems this is not a period piece, set in the recent past. Instead, things happened differently… there was a coup. And on the first page of Die!Die!Die! #8 out today, we get a history dump.

This is a government with an actual deep state, rather than whatever gets fearmongered, and who actually managed a coup to keep Donald Trump out of power and keep Obama as President for a third term of government. This is no longer a democracy and the excesses of power plays seen in Die Die Die so far are a result of this actually being a world where the more extreme conspiracy theories about how governments work are true, establishing an Obama dictatorship, the effects of which travel throughout the government enabling the worst excesses and a callous disregard for human life.
