‘90210’: FOX Signs Original Cast Members for 6-Episode Meta Summer Series

This summer, FOX will be making what sounds like a very “meta” return to the zip code that helped put the network on the map. Original Beverly Hills, 90210 cast members Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris, Brian Austin Green, and Tori Spelling are reuniting for the six-episode summer event series 90210. Conceived by Spelling, Garth, and series writers Mike Chessler and Chris Alberghini, the serialized drama work the casts’ real lives and relationships in the storylines – with the six expected to play heightened versions of themselves.

No word in the announcement if either Shannen Doherty or Riverdale‘s Luke Perry will be involved in the project in any way.

Having gone their separate ways since the original series ended 19 years ago, Jason, Jennie, Ian, Gabrielle, Brian and Tori reunite when one of them suggests it’s time to get a Beverly Hills, 90210 reboot up and running. But getting it going may make for an even more delicious soap than the reboot itself. What will happen when first loves, old romances, friends and frenemies come back together, as this iconic cast – whom the whole world watched grow up together – attempts to continue from where they left off?

“Beverly Hills, 90210 left an indelible impact on pop culture and an entire generation. Its powerful legacy is an important part of our network’s DNA – bold stories not told anywhere else and bigger-than-life-characters – and we’re honored to bring back the beloved original cast members for 90210.”

During her exit interview from FOX‘s The Masked Singer, Spelling shared her perspective on what should expect:

“It’s not technically a reboot, because I feel like everyone has seen the reboot. We don’t want to be the last ones like doing the reboot thing, and no one wants to see like old versions of ourselves, but they do want to see us playing our characters, so what we’re doing is the entire cast is playing heightened versions of themselves. Think ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ episodes, in an hourlong show, and we’re all playing heightened versions, so it could be fictional, it could be non-fictional, people will have to guess. And then we will have pop-ins, because we’re behind the scenes trying to do the reboot.”

Alberghini and Chessler are set to executive produce alongside Carteris, Garth, Green, Priestley, Spelling and Ziering. CBS TV Studios’ Ghen Maynard developed the project to series.
