Dwayne Johnson Shares a Picture of Danny DeVito at a Untitled Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle Sequel Script Read
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was one of the surprise breakout hits of 2017/2018. It was a movie that no one really thought needed to exist and the trailers weren't doing a very good job of selling the production. It had a decent cast though, and Dwayne Johnson seems to radiate charisma like a sun. Then we got the chance to see the movie and it was a lot better than anyone expected and before we knew it the Sony movie brought in over $950 million at the worldwide box office. Not only did it bring it money but it was a movie that the split between domestic and foreign was pretty even; 42% domestic and 58% foreign.
There was an audience, which meant it was time for a sequel. They've been casting and Johnson announced over the weekend that production has started. He took to social media today to share a picture of a script read including the legendary Danny DeVito and returning co-star Kevin Hart.
His little nicknames for everyone is kind of the best even if it does trigger an existential crisis that anyone could call DeVito a "grandpa". We still don't have any details as far a plotline goes but we should expect something from Sony over the summer–perhaps either at CinemaCon in April or San Diego Comic-Con in July.
Untitled Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle Sequel, directed by Jake Kasdan, stars Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Danny DeVito, Darin Ferraro, and Sal Longobardo. It will be released on December 13th, 2019.
