We’re playing catchup with all of the Loot Crate boxes that shipped late this weekend, and we’re starting things off with the November Loot Crate DX. The theme for November was Laboratory, with a few nifty things inside to fit the theme. But how does the box hold up as far as gear? We cracked it open and here’s what was inside.
First up is the pin in this box, which is a pretty cool looking one for Dexter’s Laboratory. I loved this show and it almost feels like it’s been lost to time these days in the annals of Cartoon Network’s archives as one of their first original content shows. Her we see Dexter caught in a bubble being made by Dee Dee. The design of this is amazing and the acrylics on the enamel are great, but the pin still has metal backings instead of rubber, which is a bit of a downer. Kudos on the look but not how its held in place.
Next up, we have an Iron Man Light-Up Q-Fig from their FX Diorama series. Here we get Tony Stark gussied up in one of the designs between Iron Man 1-3, still sporting a round chamber on the front for the power source. You got him blasting off from the ground in a fury of exhaust below him while preparing to fire from his right hand. So the big selling point on the figure is that it lights up using three button cell batteries, which were thankfully included. The effect is kind of cool, as you can see from the photo we shot in the dark below, but it’s not super bright. It’s basically a nightlight at best. It might have been better if parts of Iron Man lit up as well, but not so lucky on that front. Makes for a good desk figure to display, but don’t look to make this your new desk lamp.
Moving onto what feels like a monthly theme of getting glasses these days, the one in this Loot Crate DX is an InGen Beaker Mug glass from Jurassic Park. This was a nifty little item to receive as you get the logo of the fictitious parent company on the front of the mug, and then on the back, you get a measuring table on the back. Which, by the way, is accurate as I tested it out with a real measuring cup. They also threw in a nifty little reference to Site B which is the island they visit in The Lost World and Jurassic Park 3. I loved this, it was a cool little mug to receive.
Next up, we get a little bit of a Batman flair with this Batman Umbrella. Now to be clear, this is to resemble the 1960’s version of Batman, as you can see from the style and the logo on the side. It operates like any solo-person umbrella, complete with a wrist guard, a push button, and hook ring on the handle. The design is kind of funky as you get a yellow and black checkers pattern mixed with the Batman logo, but I kinda dig it. I was in need of a new umbrella after my current one broke this summer, and this is a great replacement as it does everything that one did, with the exception of auto-close. This one you manually have to reach in and pull is down.
Finally, the make-or-break item of the box, the t-shirt. Since it’s the colder months we got another long-sleeved shirt this month. Since we’re in the labs, we got one of the most famous ones in pop-culture with a Breaking Bad shirt showing off the RV that Jesse and Walter White originally cooked their meth in. The design is kinda funny as it says “Heisenberg Labs: Now We’re Cooking!” with the shade of green that takes you right back to the series. I love this design, especially the way the capture the New Mexico desert, the chemical symbols, and just the vibe of the show in a playful shirt. This is a winner, hands down, can’t complain about anything.
Overall, I thought this version of Loot Crate DX was a winner! No complaints at all. Even the worst item in the box, which to me was the pin, was still awesome to own. We’ll see how it holds up against December’s box later today, but right now, this would be one of the best of 2018.
