'Game of Thrones' Prequel Series Starting Production This Summer?

HBO Programming President Casey Bloys says production on the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel series that may-or-may-not be titled The Long Night will start this summer.

'Game of Thrones' Prequel Series Starting Production This Summer?

According to Entertainment Weekly, Bloys confirmed this likely production start for a series that won't be airing until well after the 8th and final season of Game of Thrones airs. So, we're thinking at least late 2021, if not 2022.

Details are few and far between, but we do know the jist is for this prequel series to take place roughly a thousand years (if not longer) before the events of George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire, aka Game of Thrones.

Reportedly, we'll see the "world's descent from the Golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros's history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend".

S.J. Clarkson will be directing the pilot episode, which will feature Naomi Watts, Josh Whitehouse, Naomi Ackie, Denise Gough, Jamie Campbell Bower, Sheila Atim, Ivanno Jeremiah, Georgie Henley, Alex Sharp, and Toby Regbo.

We'll let you know what we hear about the series. Game of Thrones returns to HBO on April 14th, 2019.
