Electronic Arts Files a New Trademark for Jade Empire

More than a few people's interests perked at Electronic Arts this week for some positive reasons, as the company filed a new trademark for Jade Empire. The paperwork was found by a few people over the weekend, showing that the company filed for the trademark back on January 22nd, but no further movement has been made on it since as it goes through the approval process. Chances are we won't hear much about it for the next couple of months as it goes through all the channels it needs to for approval or denial.

The reason it got so many people's attention is that Jade Empire is an old BioWare title for the original Xbox clear back in 2005. The game received largely favorable reviews at the time, but it was also one of the reasons the company didn't make a sequel to Knights of the Old Republic at the time. But for some reason, the only thing BioWare did with the property was make a couple of mobile ports and a special edition, but never developed a sequel. People like GameSpot and IGN have even gone to great lengths to talk about how it was one of the few uncreated franchises with lost potential. Maybe we'll get a second chance at greatness? Only time will tell.
