Capcom Has Fixed Leon Kennedy's Backstory in Resident Evil 2

It looks like Capcom is doing a bit of revisionist history on Resident Evil 2 before the game is released next year, starting with Leon Kennedy. The company tweeted out his backstory prior to release, and it doesn't read or seem all that interesting.

"New officer Leon S. Kennedy was assigned to Raccoon City. Before going on duty, Kennedy was at home on standby, waiting for his orders. After no one contacted him and feeling something was off, Kennedy headed to the station. Days later, after arriving in Raccoon City, his life changed."

But as several fans have pointed out, they basically made him a dullard and took out all the fun stuff that made him interesting.

There doesn't seem to be a reason for the change other than the company probably wanted to simplify things before the game was released. But from the backlash online, it seems the changes may have done more harm than good in the eyes of the fans. What do you think of the changes?
