We’re getting the first official spin-off for the Fast and Furious next year. It’s a little amazing that it took eight entries in the main series before we finally got a spin-off but here we are. The movie looks to team up Hobbs and Shaw, played by Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham respectively, and considering they had the best scene in the previous movie we can assume the action is going to be good at the very least. They are also bringing in some very interesting ladies including Vanessa Kirby and most recently Eiza Gonzalez. Gonzalez has been on career upswing after her star-making turn on Baby Driver she’s been getting a ton of great offers. Those include roles in Bloodshot, Godzilla vs. Kong, and a role in Alita: Battle Angel. As usual, Johnson is a one-man PR machine and shared a picture of Gonzalez on set.

T.R.O.U.B.L.E. On set of HOBBS & SHAW with @eizagonzalez as she brings her character “Madam M” to life. And by “brings her character to life” I mean she walked on set and slapped the shit outta @jasonstatham. Kidding. But I’d pay handsomely with my cheat meal cookies to see that slap. Been very cool to create new characters that audiences are gonna love as we build out our FAST & FURIOUS UNIVERSE. Fun stuff. Welcome “Madam M” to our franchise. We’ve been waiting for her and her squad of bad ass female force multipliers. #HobbsAndShaw #FemaleForceMultipliers SUMMER 2019
We’ll have to see how this spin-off does since the Fast and Furious franchise is set to end with the next movie. If this one is a hit we can expect Universal to keep making these movies for as long as Johnson and Statham want to come back to these roles.
Production for Hobbs and Shaw started production this September, it’ll be directed by David Leitch, and it has a release date of July 26th, 2019. The movie is set to star Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Vanessa Kirby, Eiza Gonzalaz, and Idris Elba. The Fast and Furious series has made $5.1 billion in the worldwide box office and has been keeping the lights on at Universal Pictures since 2001.
