Forty Minutes of Alita: Battle Angel to be IMAX-Sized

Tonight, London was treated to a half hour presentation of footage from the upcoming Alita: Battle Angel movie on Cineworld's IMAX screen on Leicester Square. And one scene stood out a little more. The futuristic sport Motorball sequence, with Alita playing professional moto-ball for her life, was a little bigger than the others.

Producers and director John Landau and Robert Rodriguez were on the stage to confirm that, yes, they had been working with production house Framestore in the UK on a number of sequences on the movie, including the Motorball sequence. And it will be one of forty minutes worth of scenes picked out of the film that will be shown, as we saw it tonight, using the full size of IMAX screens where they are available.

And that we were the first to see or know about it.

It looked pretty neat. More to come when I have my head in the game. A bit like some of those motorball players had…

Alita: Battle Angel will be released on the 6th of February in the UK and on the 14th of February in the US. Directed by Robert Rodriguez, written by James Cameron and Laeta Kalogridis, starring Rosa Salazar, Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly, Mahershala Ali, Ed Skrein, Jackie Earle Haley and Keean Johnson. The movie is based on the comics Gunnm/Battle Angel Alita by Yukito Kishiro.
