First Trailer and Poster for LAIKA's New Feature 'Missing Link'

We have a trailer and poster debut from the new movie from LAIKA and Annapurna Pictures. It has the signature LAIKA style of stop-motion animation but it looks very different from anything they've done before.

First Trailer and Poster for LAIKA's New Feature 'Missing Link'

This is probably the most conventional looking movie the studio has ever done before. Movies like Coraline, Para-Norman, and Kubo and the Two Strings were great because they weren't like other animated movies geared toward families. That's not to say that this one won't be a movie that leaves you ugly crying on the floor like most LAIKA productions do. The trailer is just setting a very different tone from previous movies. Then again those previous movies didn't make a lot of money so maybe it was time for a change. We also have a new summary for the movie.

This April, meet Mr. Link: 8 feet tall, 630 lbs, and covered in fur, but don't let his appearance fool you… he is funny, sweet, and adorably literal, making him the world's most lovable legend at the heart of Missing Link, the globe-trotting family adventure from LAIKA. Tired of living a solitary life in the Pacific Northwest, Mr. Link recruits fearless explorer Sir Lionel Frost to guide him on a journey to find his long-lost relatives in the fabled valley of Shangri-La. Along with adventurer Adelina Fortnight, our fearless trio of explorers encounter more than their fair share of peril as they travel to the far reaches of the world to help their new friend. Through it all, the three learn that sometimes you can find a family in the places you least expect.

An April 12th release date puts it on the same day as the Hellboy reboot and a week after Shazam! We can hope that it can find a spot in there somewhere; LAIKA deserves a hit.

Missing Link, directed by Chris Butler, stars Hugh Jackman, Zoe Saldana, Zach Galifianakis, Timothy Olyphant, David Walliams, Emma Thompson, Matt Lucas, Ching Valdes-Aran, Stephen Fry, and Amrita Acharia. It will be released on April 12th.
