Comics Letterer and Designer Jim Novak, Died in April
Not every passing in the comics industry is recognised straight away, especially if people have moved away from the medium, or is no longer active with a fanbase.
This seems to have been the case with Jim Novak, longstanding comic book letterer and designed for Marvel Comics. It took fellow letterer Pat Brosseau to reach out and be told that Novak passed away in April of this year.
Novak began working in comics in the seventies as a designer and letterer for DC Comics before becoming part of the Marvel Bullpen, working on Weapon X, Conan The Barbarian, Elektra Assassin and Star Wars for whom he redesigned the Star Wars logo for the comic book line, which was then picked up by the studio and used on Star Wars merchandise.
Brosseau has been sharing some of his memories of the man and his work.
