Duncan Jones Is Not Directing a DC Superhero Movie

Yesterday director Duncan Jones teased that he's going to direct a comic book movie. That isn't exactly a short list to go down, and people have been wondering if he's about to jump into Marvel or DC — or if he's going to take on a Vertigo property or some other comic book movie. There are so many of them right now it's hard to keep track. According to Forbes we can knock at least one cinematic universe off of the docket, because apparently Jones is not directing a DC superhero movie.

However, whatever Jones' project is, it's apparently not a DC movie, unless Jones is making these remarks about early-stage conversations that haven't materialized into anything certain yet. But that seems highly unlikely, especially since other filmmakers seem to know about it already (Edgar Wright tweeted as much shortly after Jones' tweet announcing the news).

As previously stated, there are a lot more comic book movies out there than just Marvel or DC. Marvel does have plenty of movies in the works right now. The big one that doesn't have an attached director is The Eternals, but Jones is saying that we'll be getting more hints and possibly an announcement soon. That's about when Comic-Con International is taking place, and Marvel isn't showing up this year.

Sony has plenty of comic book movies lined up. They've announced a few more Spider-Man spinoff movies, including the Silk movie and the recently announced Morbius the Living Vampire one with Jared Leto. Sony also has the Valiant universe they are working on, but we're secretly hoping that they're going to get a female director for the recently announced Faith movie.

Fox might be making the jump to Disney later this month, but the ink isn't dry on those contracts just yet. There are a few X-Men properties that could use a director, including the Multiple Man movie and the Kitty Pryde movie. Jones also doesn't say "superhero", he says "comic book movie", which could mean anything really. Maybe it'll be a project like Kingsman or Kick-Ass, which are comic book movies but not superhero movies.

Jones is passionate director with one of the best science fiction movies of the last decade or two, Moon, under his belt. Whatever project a studio has managed to grab him on, it's going to be interesting to see him develop it.
