Supergirl Season 3: New Synopsis Suggests Guardian-Focused Episode

Looking through the official photos I have of Mehcad Brooks for Supergirl season 3, I noticed that there are more of him on the phone than in his Guardian suit. I think James Olsen is a good character on the show and I like what Brooks does with the role, but he just doesn't seem to get the screen time that you'd think he would once the made him a vigilante. They could really have played up the similarities to Batman / Superman, but instead his moments are few. The CW has released a new synopsis for the 19th episode of the season, called 'The Fanatical', and it looks like James is getting the focus of the episode.

Here is the synopsis for The Fanatical:

JAMES CONSIDERS UNMASKING AS GUARDIAN – When Tanya (guest star Nesta Cooper), a disciple of Coville's, escapes from what's left of his cult, she gives Kara (Melissa Benoist) and James (Mehcad Brooks) a journal that could hold the key to saving Sam (Odette Annable). Someone learns Guardian's identity and threatens to expose James if he doesn't do what they ask. James contemplates what it means to be a black vigilante without a mask in America. Mairzee Almas directed the episode written by Paula Yoo & Eric Carrasco (#319). Original airdate 5/21/2018.

I like that he is in both the story of the journal and in the idea of having a secret identity. Yesterday we posted comments from Brooks about keeping secrets in his relationship with Lena (Katie McGrath) — I wonder now if this is tied to what he was saying. Maybe he doesn't come out to the world, but he does reveal it to Lena in this episode.

Supergirl airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on the CW. The Fanatical airs May 21st.
