Four friends who grew up together spend their days playing public practical jokes on one another — and they get paid to do it, too: pretty much the perfect example of the American Dream. Thanks to truTV, James “Murr” Murray, Brian “Q” Quinn, Joe Gatto and Sal Vulcano (also known as comedy troupe The Tenderloins) are going to get to dream a little longer with the announcement that Impractical Jokers has been renewed for an eighth season. The good news for Jokers fans didn’t end there, though: the foursome will star in their first feature film, which is set to be produced by Funny or Die and directed by Chris Henchy (writer, The Other Guys).

Season 8 of Impractical Jokers will consist of 26 episodes, keeping the show on the air through 2019. When the show completes it’s eighth season run, the total number of series episodes and specials will reach 237; with the series’ 200th episode expected to hit some time in 2019. Charlie DeBevoise, Pete McPartland Jr., Gatto, Murray, Quinn, and Vulcano executive produce the series; which is produced by NorthSouth Productions.

“The Jokers’ authentic friendship and genuine relatability has endeared them to millions of fans around the world, creating one of the most original brands in all of television. We’re incredibly proud of the partnership we’ve developed with the guys throughout the years, and the growing, multiplatform success of the Impractical Jokers brand.”

– Chris Linn, President, truTV

Set to begin production this spring, the still-untitled movie is expected to tell the tale of a humiliating 1992 high school mishap that sends the “Impractical Jokers” on a road trip. Competing in hidden camera challenges, the four look to turn back the clock and redeem three of the four. Gatto, Murray, Quinn, Vulcano, Henchy and Funny Or Die’s Jim Ziegler are set to produce; with truTV’s Marissa Ronca, Jack Rovner, and Funny Or Die’s Mike Farah and Joe Farrell serving as executive producers.
