Jessica Chastain in Talks to Star as Beverly in the 'It' Sequel

There have been rumored that Jessica Chastain has been linked to the It sequel since before the movie even dropped. The first movie, which covered roughly half of the classic Stephen King book, became one of the breakout hits of 2017. It dominated the box office and the sequel has become a high priority for the studio. Despite the rumors that she's been connected to the sequel for a while now, Variety is reporting that Chastain has just officially entered talks to star as the adult version of Beverly.

Sources stress that negotiations are early and that the script is still being worked on, but both sides have officially begun discussing her coming on to the project. Bill Skarsgard is also expected to return as Pennywise. The sequel will bow on Sept. 6, 2019, with production expected to start this summer.

Things are still so early in negotiations that director Andy Muschietti hasn't even closed the deal yet. That was likely a mistake on the part of New Line to not sign Muschietti for both movies, since now he has a lot room to negotiate a bigger paycheck — which he has every right to. No one, likely not even New Line, thought that It was going to be as big as it was. Now they have the clout to bring in award-winning stars like Chastain to fill out the adult main cast.
