Mark Hamill on How Divisive Star Wars Fans Are: “You Can’t Please Everybody”

Posted by February 7, 2018 Comment

No one hates Star Wars like Star Wars fans. If that wasn’t apparent when Star Wars: The Last Jedi came out back in December, it’s just as apparent this week with the release of the trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story. Entertainment Tonight recently caught up with Mark Hamill and asked him if he’d seen the trailer.

“I don’t know what anybody’s complaining about. The trailer makes you want to see the movie and I’m dying to see it, so it worked.”

The divisive fandom is something that Hamill chuckles about in the interview and goes on to say that you can’t please everybody.

“This is the only franchise where, if you go on Twitter, they say, ‘If such and such happens, I am so out.’ So now they’re speculating about things they don’t want to see,” Hamill shared with Entertainment Tonight. “It surprises me, but, look, you can’t please everybody. You just have to try and make the best story you can. I was sort of taken aback by it, but, who knows? Not everybody likes broccoli. Some people like carrots or brussel sprouts better. That’s just the way life is.”

While can agree that discord is a good thing, harassing people on social media that didn’t like the thing is another level all together. There is no pleasing everyone, and as long as interesting filmmakers continue to make Star Wars movies, there’s going to be something interesting to talk about regardless of what you think the quality of the production was.

Summary: Han Solo and Chewbacca’s adventures before joining the Rebellion, including their early encounters with Lando Calrissian.

Solo: A Star Wars Story, directed by Ron Howard, stars Alden Ehrenreich, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Woody Harrelson, and Thandie Newton. It will be released May 25th.
