Flash Season 4: Will Iris West Suit Up This Season? And How?

Have you heard the one about Iris West? There is a lot of rumors flying around right now about Iris (Candice Patton) on the Flash, and it could go a long way to explaining that new power Barry (Grant Gustin) showed two weeks ago. Let's see if we can piece together everything.

Word has been floating around for a while that Iris might suit up as a speedster this season. I'm not exactly sure what started those rumors, but I've been hearing them from multiple places. Yesterday, Natalie Abrams of EW.com confirmed that she will suit up as a speedster in a March episode. She says it's temporary and the details are being kept under wraps.

Now, keep that in mind when you think back to the Trial of the Flash episode when Iris tried to approach the bench and Barry raced over to stop her. The two were caught in a time vortex or something that allowed them to talk while everyone else was stopped. Iris asked Barry how he was doing that, and Barry didn't know. This is the type of thing that only people in touch with the speed force could do. This is likely the first sign the Iris has access to the speed force. But how?

Go back to the season premiere, The Flash Reborn. Barry comes out of the Speed Force saying a lot of what seemed to be nonsense, yet one of the lines, "Your Honor, I didn't kill anyone," suddenly made sense. Another line he says is, "We're going to need more diapers." In the comics, Barry and Iris have twins who both have access to the Speed Force: Dawn and Don. The odds on favorite that the wedding caterer played by Jessica Parker Kennedy is Dawn Allen. The same girl that showed up again at the end of The Elongated Knight Rises and pays for Ralph (Hartley Sawyer) and Cisco's (Carlos Valdes) drinks. And she's seen writing the same symbols that Barry writes in the season premiere.

And you put that all together, Iris is pregnant with twins, and through that is able to tap into the Speed Force temporarily giving her the chance to suit up in March and also do the time-stopped conversation. The girl is either Dawn Allen or Jenni Ognats (Iris's granddaughter and the speedster named XS), who has come back to see Iris and Barry get married and have their kids. Or to help make sure it happens. That part's still vague.

As online theories go, this one is not bad. I could see the writers wanting to add the Tornado Twins (Dawn and Don) to change up the dynamic again next year. Plus, the idea of Iris having a new brother or sister and child the same age is kind of interesting.

The Flash airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on the CW.
