Star Wars: The Last Jedi – Daisy Ridley Doesn't Plan to Play Rey Forever

The late Carrie Fisher spoke about how she got into character for Princess Leia and never got out. People are comparing the story of new Star Wars star Daisy Ridley to Fisher's and now people are wondering if she's on a similar career path. Ridley spoke to Rolling Stone about how their stories are different and if she's planning on playing Rey for the rest of her life.

"There are literally no similarities with Carrie's story and mine," she says. … On the other hand, "a lot of Rey is me," she says, "but that is not me being Rey. That is parts of me being a character as Rey, because how could it not? So in that sense, I understand it, because so much of Leia is Carrie."

When it comes to the future Ridley pretty much knows what she wants and that is she doesn't want to play Rey after Episode IX. We've been told that this will be an ending of for he Skywalker saga and we'll be moving on to Rian Johnson's new trilogy.

"No," she says flatly. "For me, I didn't really know what I was signing on to. I hadn't read the script, but from what I could tell, it was really nice people involved, so I was just like, 'Awesome.' Now I think I am even luckier than I knew then, to be part of something that feels so like coming home now. … I am really, really excited to do the third thing and round it out, because ultimately, what I was signing on to was three films. So in my head, it's three films. I think it will feel like the right time to round it out."

What about further down the line? For a long time there it looked like Harrison Ford wasn't ever going to come back to Star Wars and it still happened. Is that possible for Ridley 30 years down the line?

"Who knows? I honestly feel like the world may end in the next 30 years, so, if in 30 years we are not living underground in a series of interconnected cells … then sure. Maybe. But again, it's like, who knows. Because the thing I thought was so amazing, was people really wanted it. And it was done by people who really love it."

That might be thinking a bit too far in advance for someone who is still very young. When Ridley did the math and realized she'd be 55 it was a bit too much. She said something I think we can all relate to.

"Fuck," Ridley says. "I can't think that far ahead."

We know that feeling all too well.

Summary: Having taken her first steps into a larger world in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), Rey continues her epic journey with Finn, Poe and Luke Skywalker in the next chapter of the saga, Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi, directed by Rian Johnson, stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Mark Hamill, Oscar Isaac, Carrie Fisher, and Adam Driver. It will be released on December 15th.
