Lord Mesa Does Homage To Famous Green Lantern / Green Arrow Cover

I was at Stan Lee's L.A. Comic Con over the weekend and was set up a few tables away from local artist and cool dude Lord Mesa. Fans of the Arrowverse are familiar with his work as he does many pieces around the shows (and others) and a lot of the cast retweets his work. He art was also used as the cake for Oliver's birthday in Arrow's 100th episode and there was a reference to Lord Mesa Bakery. The artist told me about an homage piece he was planning and I told him to send it to me when it's done so I could share it with the BC readers. But it has some spoiler value if you're not up to date on the series…. so spoilers ahead…

The current story line on Arrow involves Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) stepping down as Green Arrow and handing the mantle to John Diggle (David Ramsey). The problem is that Diggle was wounded while on Lian Yu and was caught in a blast from a bomb left by Adrian Chase (Josh Segarra). He is suffering degenerative nerve damage and has severe shakes in his shooting hand. Dinah Drake (Juliana Harkavy) knows about this and had her life in danger because of it. Diggle was about to tell Oliver when Oliver asked him to take over. So, instead of taking himself out of active duty, Diggle is now the boss and hiding his injury by using some form of drug… this was the big reveal at the end of last episode.

One of the famous Green Arrow stories in the comics has to do with when Oliver found out that Roy Harper aka Speedy, was doing drugs. It was a big deal at the time, one of the first comics to address the drug problem and the cover has become iconic. Lord Mesa decided to do his version of the Green Lantern #85 cover using Diggle, Dinah and Oliver. For more of Lord Mesa's work, click here.
