This Week, Marvel Comics Crosses Over With Riverdale…

Tomorrow sees the publication of U.S.Avengers #11 by Al Ewing and Paco Diaz. Looking a little like this, with Cannoball, Sam Guthrie, finding himself in a place that seems very similar to a certain Riverdale in a certain line of Archie Comics.

So who are they?

Well, the reference to "Bugface Brown" is the dead giveaway, a 1930's gangster-style nickname.

I was instantly reminded of the Skrulls Of Kral IV, created by Stan Lee and Kark Kirby for Fantastic Four #91. A planet-wide community of shape-shifting aliens who had decided to remodel 1930s American prohibition society, with gangsters and all, after they had encountered a real American gangster who has escaped from Earth in a Skrull ship decades ago. They remodelled everything, including faking ancient technology, to them, with their high tech. So you had Ford Model T cars – that could something fly, if pressed. And then adding gladiatorial bouts for some reason.

Oh and yes, Kral IV was in the Andromeda galaxy as well. And yes, KJrak IV used to have flying cars.

The Skrulls of Kral IV turned up again, as John Byrne mined the Fantastic Four past, and turned up in Black Panther, but seem to have been forgotten of late. The last mention I could find was a throwaway note in Secret Invasion. Could they, perhaps have moved on from the 1930s to the 1050s and have recreated American 1950s society based on copies of Archie Comics? And what do they make of the Riverdale TV show?
