Sin City Comics Opens A Second Store In Wales
In June, Bleeding Cool reported on how Sin City Comics of Newport, Wales has suffered a major break-in with £6,000 worth of product stolen. There's no news on any arrests of any recovered goods, but the store has seemed to bounce back with a second location.
A new branch of Sin City Comics Pontypool has just opened in neighbouring town of Pontypool, home of the Pontypool GeekedFest which owner Shane Jordan had organised.
Could this be a new business model? Run a comic fest-type event in a neighbouring town, check out the demographic and clientele, and then open a store there if it seems receptive? He told South West Argus how he spied an opportunity at Pontypool Indoor Market,
"Every time I went up there I saw there were empty units and it was full of kids on their lunch from school".
Bingo.
"The market has given us permission to do Pokemon events and Yu-Gi-Oh card tournaments. Hopefully, those will be successful. It's about building a community, and if we can bring more people into the town and it helps the market then that's great."
Start 'em young, Junior geeks.
Diamond Comic Distributors has been running special programmes to encourage comic book stores to expand with new outlets, creating chains, as it is seen as a more efficient way of creating new comic book stores than starting from scratch, with very generous start-up packages.
Bleeding Cool is happy to celebrate new comic stores opening, as well as marking when comic stores close. Do let us know when there are new comic book stores opening in your community.
