What Guillermo Del Toro Thinks About David Harbour Playing Hellboy

If there is one thing thast isn't going to change anytime soon it's people asking Guillermo del Toro what he thinks about the Hellboy reboot. He has nothing to do with this new movie, he has no new insight, and it seems like people are just trying to convince one creative to talk badly about another. Whether or not that was Screen Geek's intentions when they talked to del Toro is unknown but del Toro is a professional who didn't badmouth anyone. Not really anyway.

SG: I understand you're a fan of Stranger Things. Phenomenal show. I'm wondering, if maybe with it coming full circle – David Harbour as the new Hellboy. Do you have any thoughts on it?

GDT: No, I mean I like him. I don't know him and I'm not involved with the movie. But I sure wish them luck, man. He's a great guy.

That is a pretty neutral response so they asked del Toro another question.

SG: But he surely won't do as good as Ron [Perlman].

GDT: Oh, no. (laughs)

This isn't a bad response as it is a baity one on behalf of the interviewer. There is no reason to pit these two creative teams against each other but that seems to be what everyone wants. While Perlman is a fantastic Hellboy it doesn't say anywhere that he's the only one who can ever play the role. We've seen a few images from this movie and nothing else so it's way too early for anyone to call who is the "better" man for the role.

Hellboy, directed by Neil Marshall, will star David Harbour, Milla Jovovich, Sasha Lane, Penelope Mitchell, and Ian McShane. It will be released on January 11th, 2019.
