Gotham Season 4 – Looking For Clues In The New Cast Image

The folks at TVLine got the official cast photo for season 4 of Gotham. And it’s pretty complete with the two new series regulars Crystal Reed and Alxander Siddig in the picture. Also in the shot is Morena Baccarin who was seen leaving Gotham at the end of season 3… she also left Gotham at the end of season 2… she’s really not good at leaving town as she keeps coming back. Except this time, when she comes back, she won’t be dating one of Carmine Falcone’s children… Gordon will be.

Let’s take a closer look at the way the photos is composed. In the center you have Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) with Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) and Selina Kyle (Camren Bicondova) just off of each shoulder… yet the two former love interests are now standing back to back showing the different paths they are on. And if you remember, it was Gordon that brought them together in the first place in season one. It’s interesting that Bruce is facing the bad guys while Selina is facing the good guys.

On the left you have Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor) at the front in his normal hair cut with Tabitha Galavan (Jessica Lucas) and Barbara Kean (Erin Richards) flanking him. Barbara suddenly has a new blond, short cut hairstyle that makes me think Harley Quinn. Just off to the side from them is Edward Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) not looking like a Popsicle. Between the Riddler and Bruce is the only truly new character in the image, Sofia Falcone (Reed) who might be there to show her split between good and evil.

On the right hand side of the image you have Alfred Pennyworth (Sean Pertwee), Lucius Fox (Chris Chalk), Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue) and Dr. Leslie Thompkins (Baccarin). Sitting in front of Baccarin is Ra’s al Ghul (Siddig). Which might seem odd if you are just trying to balance between good and evil. But if you look at it as a balance between order and chaos, then Riddler through Barbara are chaos, Alfred through Ra’s are order and Jim, Bruce, Selina and Sofia are the ones that can tip the scales one way or the other. And as much as Ra’s is a bad guy, he has always been for order.

As for whose not pictured, there’s no Jonathan Crane / Scarecrow because I don’t think he will be around for more than a few episodes. And we don’t see Drew Powell because of the transformation that Butch Gilzean…. or should I say Cyrus Gold… is making into Solomon Grundy.

We’ll get to see all these characters in action tomorrow night as Gotham returns at 8 PM on Fox for the season 4 premiere.
