DC Comics Really Wants A Future With A Dead Batman And No Superheroes (SPOILERS)

In Batwoman #6 last week we saw a future with a dead Bruce Wayne

….a Gotham without superheroes – they have been exiled – and a fascist state run by ex-Robin Tim Drake…

…with Batman stormtroopers.

In today’s Nightwing: The New Order #1 by Kyle Higgins and Trevor McCarthy, we have a dead Bruce Wayne, an America without superheroes – they have been put into stasis – and a fascist state run by ex-Robin Dick Grayson…

…with Batman stormtroopers.

And in today’s Suicide Squad #24 by Rob Williams, Agustin Padilla, Juan Ferreyra and Adriano Lucas, we have the Squad trying to kill Bruce Wayne, and The People Of America teaming with Amanda Waller to create a world without superheroes…

– they have been put in stasis…

Oh and there are fascist Suicide Squad Stormtroopers too.

Man, for all of the hope and change that DC Rebirth seemed intended to bring, every future seems to be a) fascist b) without superheroes and c) a dead Bruce Wayne. Must be something in the Burbank water.

Who’d have thought that Damian Wayne, whose future self is a murderous vigilante, would turn out to be the more morally defensible, even if he does end up seeing Gotham getting nuked.

The moral of this story? Don’t put a Robin in charge of anything, no matter how righteous you are, never create an army of super soldiers using designs based on either vigilantes or Nazis, and keep Bruce Wayne alive. Even the Dark Knight series managed that…
