American Gods Issue 7 Will Include The Infamous Lucy Scene

Bleeding Cool's Erin Manzo was at the panel for American Gods  today at San Diego Comic Con and reports that Issue 7 of the Dark Horse comic, which was just penciled, will feature the Lucy scene and the unnamed god from the book.

Having read the book, this unnamed god and Lucy thing struck me as odd, but I've been corrected. In the referenced scene, "Lucy asks Shadow if he'd ever wanted to "see Lucy's tits." Fans of the book (and show) will know it. May or may not go to print with half nipple."

According to Ray Flook, our man for all things film and tv: "the "Lucy" scene is just a part of the novel: the new god Media appears before Shadow as Lucy Ricardo from I LOVE LUCY. It's just a part of the novel…in fact, I think Gillian Anderson handles the scene better in the tv series." So fans of the show will likely not remember this infamous Lucy scene as it doesn't appear there.

But at least that description jogs my memory a bit. I'll be honest, of all the parts of American Gods that have stuck with me since I read the book, this is not one of the moments I can easily recall. In fact, I think I might have mentally repressed knowledge of this whole thing, because my brain just does not ever want to think of Lucy Ricardo taking her top off.

The scene works pretty simply, one of the 'new gods' Media takes on the form of Lucille Ball from I Love Lucy. She's trying to recruit Shadow to the "new gods" team and asks if Shadow ever wanted to "see Lucy's tits" as a last ditch effort in an attempt to sway Shadow from the side of the 'old gods.'

So the American Gods comic is definitely not going to be holding back on the more bizarrely sexual moments of Neil Gaiman's novel. And fans of the book will find the comic to be a bit more faithful than the show, though whether or not you agree that the adaptation needs to be a faithful retelling is something for you to decide.

American Gods: Shadows Issue #7 will be out on September 13, 2017. The writing team consists of Gaiman himself, and P. Craig Russell with interior art by P. Craig Russell and Scott Hampton, Hampton is also responsible for colors on the issue, and it will feature a cover by Glenn Fabry.
