Astonishing X-Men #1's Gift To ResurrXion And Marvel Legacy? (Final Page Spoilers)
Astonishing X-Men #1 published today is a very pretty comic book. Full of scenes such as Psylocke's psychic butterfly mounting the London Shard as helicopters surround it King Kong style. What a fun comic from Charles Soule, Jim Cheung, Mark Morales, Guillermo Ortego, Walden Wong, Richard Isanove and Rain Beredo.
But on the final page it does something else that may see this as a gift to Marvel Legacy in issues to come. But, to be fair, it's not the first timw Marvel have teased this since a certain issue of Avengers Vs X-Men that set up this new status quo.
In that series, Professor X confronted Cyclops possessed by the Phoenix Force and died in the battle. But ever since then, it appears Marvel have been teasing us with the possibility of his return.
His body was later stolen by the Red Skull's S-Men, Xavier's brain is removed and fused to the brain of the Red Skull.
Professor X's soul is later seen in Heaven along with Nightcrawler's spirit at the time when Azazel invaded.
Later, extracting Xavier's brain from the Skull, it is destroyed by Rogue, rather than handed over to Captain America, now operating as an agent of Hydra and thwarting his plans for world domination.
But Marvel can't help but tease. Such as Storm imagining Charles Xavier's presence so strongly in Extraordinary X-Men…
And in X-Men Blue they have been teasing his return…
While in Generation X, preview artwork was misinterpreted by some…
…later revealed to be Quentin Quire with some knocked back colouring…
And so, today, Astonishing X-Men #1, And a final page reveal regarding something – or someone – that the Shadow King has in his posession.
Could this finally be the real deal? A return of Professor X for ResurrXion, and ahead of Marvel Legacy? Or is it yet another fakeout? Again, as always, time (and issue 2) will tell…
