Earlier today at D23, the company took a moment to honor several celebrities and influential people as part of their Disney Legends Awards at the Anaheim Convention Center.
Among this year’s honorees were (with their categories): Carrie Fisher (Film), Clyde “Gerry” Geronimi (Animation), Whoopi Goldberg (Film & Television), Manuel Gonzales (Publishing), Mark Hamill (Film), Wayne Jackson (Imagineering), Jack Kirby (Publishing), Stan Lee (Film & Publishing), Garry Marshall (Film & Television), Julie Taymor (Theatrical) and Oprah Winfrey (Film & Television).
Each honoree was given time for a small speech for a select crowd at D23, a cool looking trophy, and got to put their hands in cement which will end up in the Disneyland park. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Disney Legends Awards. The first Disney Legend was Fred MacMurray (The Shaggy Dog, The Absent-Minded Professor, The Happiest Millionaire), who was honored in 1987.
