Nerd Food: Afternoon Tea At Disney World's Grand Floridian Resort

When I say you can have almost any kind of dining experience at Disney World, I'm not lying. I've had some really good food at the park; in fact, I can't think of a single bad meal I've ever had there. One of my favorite meals, though, isn't even in the park! At the Grand Floridian Resort next to Magic Kingdom, guests can enjoy afternoon tea inside the main lobby. It's actually a fantastic way to beat the heat, relax, and feel a little fancy. The Grand Floridian is just stunning.

Tea is served seven days a week, with times from 12 p.m.–5 p.m. on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, while on Tuesday/Thursday tea is from 2 p.m.–5 p.m. And as an added bonus, at 3 p.m. daily a live band plays in the lobby of the resort. But don't worry; it's not too rowdy. They play classic Disney music. I promise it's worth spending an afternoon there.

I took myself here on my 30th birthday as a way to celebrate. I opted for the Bedfordshire Tea, as it was only $35. I got a medley of finger sandwiches, a scone and jam, and tea. I opted for a rose tea, and I wasn't let down. They also gave me a rose, since it was my birthday (though I sadly had to leave at the resort when I went home). The food is exceptional, and the tea selection is pretty damn good.

The service is impeccable, and even the other people sitting near you are friendly. How could you not be, in such a magical place? A mother and daughter having lunch beside me wound up including me in their conversation, since I was by myself. Disney World honestly brings out the best in people — well, for the most part. I have seen a fight or two break out before!
