Assassin's Creed TV Series From Adi Shankar Is Happening

Despite a pretty healthy fanbase for the video game titles, Assassin's Creed the movie did not do as well as expected at the theater.  It really wasn't bad, it was by no means the worst video game adaptation film, it wasn't even the worst action film of the last few years.  But, for whatever reason, it just didn't resonate with audiences.

Michael Fassbender played Cal/Aguilar, a descendant of an original Assassin alive during the Inquisition, who was able to tap into the memories of his ancestor via some technical wizardry much like how it's done in the games.  There was talk of the film launching an entire franchise, where the dark and violent history of the Brotherhood of Assassins would spread throughout the historical ages, just like the games.

This of course has fallen by the wayside after a mediocre box office return, but apparently that doesn't mean an Assassin's Creed universe is out of the question.

Adi Shankar, who is currently finishing up the Castlevania series for Netflix, is making an anime Assassin's Creed series.  From his facebook page:

Adi is the man behind the rebooted Dredd film, which was the perfect example of how to reboot a film (with a heavy comic side).  The visuals and gritty artistry made it a cult favorite, spurring all kinds of rumors of a sequel or tv series continuation.  With Assassin's Creed, it's obvious Shankar is getting to pursue a dream project with the game studio's blessing, something any fan would dream of.

No word yet on where this series would be viewed, more than likely a streaming service like Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon will take possession of such a project.

Obviously this is still in the early phases, so no word yet on casting or what possible timelines this show would cover, but Adi *did* say "original story", which opens the universe to options.

We'll let you know as any more information becomes available.
