Mark Hamill Clarifies His Statements About How He "Disagreed" With 'The Last Jedi' Director

star warsWe still know almost nothing about Star Wars: The Last Jedi but that didn't stop Mark Hamill from putting his foot in his mouth. He has said, in the past, that he had a "disagreement" with director Rian Johnson about the direction was taking Luke Skywalker in. We have no idea what that means but that didn't stop people from running with the statement and taking it in about fifty million different directions.

While at the Tony Awards Variety caught up with Hamill to ask him about the statement and he provided clarification.

"I got into trouble because… I was quoted as saying to Rian that I fundamentally disagree with everything you decided about Luke, and it was inartfully [sic] phrased," Hamill said. "What I was, was surprised at how he saw Luke. And it took me a while to get around to his way of thinking, but once I was there it was a thrilling experience. I hope it will be for the audience too."

Hamill admits that he hasn't seen a final copy of the movie but that he has a lot of faith in Johnson as a director and storyteller.

"Rian Johnson is an amazing filmmaker," Hamill said. "And if you look at Brick, or Brothers Bloom, or Looper, each film is different from the last one and they're so inventive. And I think people will be pleased and surprised, I know I was."

We likely won't know what Hamill "disagreed" with until we see the finished product but right now we can wait patiently for D23 and Comic-Con International since that is likely when we're going to learn anything new about the movie.

Summary: Having taken her first steps into a larger world in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), Rey continues her epic journey with Finn, Poe and Luke Skywalker in the next chapter of the saga.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi, directed by Rian Johnson, stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Mark Hamill, Oscar Isaac, Carrie Fisher, and Adam Driver. It will be released on December 15th.
