'Gears Of War' Movie Gets The Writer Of The Fifty Upcoming 'Avatar' Sequels

xbox-wire-gears-of-war-lo-940x498In light of the Rampage movie starting production now the Gears of War movie at Universal finally got some movement today. Universal has brought on Shane Salerno to write the script for the movie according to Deadline. Salero's current writing credits involve the upcoming fifty four Avatar sequels, The Cartel for Ridley Scott, Michael Bay-directed Armageddon and the Oliver Stone-directed Savages.

Rod Fergusson, head of Microsoft subsidiary The Coalition that develops new Gears Of War content and the franchise co-creator, said the film would not be based on any particular game but instead be a new story set in the universe. That universe is the fictional planet of Sera, where a squad of beefed-up commandos living in a bombed-out postapocalyptic society battle swarms of alien creatures called Locusts.

So Universal put the writing duties for one of the movie adaptations of one of the biggest video game franchises of the recent decade in the hands of the guy who wrote Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem. Sounds like another winner for the video game to movie adaptation genre.
