Stephen King's Firestarter Gets A Remake By Akiva Goldsman And Scott Teems

Akiva Goldsman (The Dark Tower, Cinderella Man) and Scott Teems (Rectify) will remake Stephen King's Firestarter for Blumhouse.  Goldsman will direct and collaborate with Teems on the script. The original 1984 film based on the 1980 Stephen King novel starred Drew Barrymore as a young girl with pyrokinetic powers. The news was announced by Goldsman and Jason Blum at the Overlook Film Festival in Denver last night.

The only surprising part of this one is that it took so long.  I think we can presume that the favorable buzz for the first trailer of the remake of Stephen King's It helped push this deal to conclusion.  Blumhouse has a magic touch for turning low budget horror into box office hits that we've rarely seen in recent years, with a string of financial successes to their credit including Paranormal Activity, Insidious, The Purge, Split, and Get Out.
