‘Star Wars’ Merchandise Goes Beyond T-Shirts And Toys, To Grills, Blenders, Toasters, Luggage, And The Coveted Death Star Popcorn Popper

The idea of brands like Star Wars and Marvel becoming marketable outside of the toys and t-shirt model is still fairly new to the convention scene. The idea of high end purses, kitchen utensils, luggage, and even a grill on the show room was impossible to imagine even a few years ago but is common now. Companies are beginning to realize that even something as banal as a toaster will sell if it has a character that people recognize on it. Perhaps that is a little cynical but it is fun to see the new and innovative ways appeal to fans.

One of the last things you would expect to see at a convention — that isn’t an outdoor retailers expo — is a portable grill, but there was one right next to the LEGO booth. The grill itself is shaped like a Tie Fighter and has an impressive amount of detail on the product.

Are you in the market for new luggage. Another company can get you a rolling suitcase that looks like BB-8 that will make it plenty easy to spot at the baggage claim wracks. Unless you’re coming to something like Star Wars Celebration. It might be a little less unique in an environment like that.

A backpack is something that has been floating around for years but a purse intended for adult use is another thing entirely. These purses, wallets, and change purses shaped like R2-D2, BB-8, and more have become a staple of the convention scene. It’s the perfect little thing to go along with that dress you just bought at retailers like Her Universe or We Love Fine that have reached to the underappreciated female market with gusto.

The idea of spending money on something like a toaster should be boring but Star Wars fans have the option of buying toasters, popcorn makers, waffle makers, and even blenders in the shape of Star Wars characters and objects. The toasters will even toast a Galactic Empire symbol onto your bread so you can eat your loyalty to the Empire like a true patriot. Or eat the Empire symbol as a sign of Rebellion.

As previously mentioned all of this should be incredibly cynical but it’s really just another step forward in geek culture becoming just part of pop culture.
