When Marvel Told Valentine DeLandro To Give The Invisible Woman "A Bigger Rack"

9fc22c4faafc795541bffd3d07c37e74Judd Morse writes,

What's a convention without a Warren Ellis story? Even if he's not there (which is the usual case).

This one's second-hand, from Kelly Sue Deconnick. During Saturday's "Ask Me About My Agenda" panel, Deconnick's creative partner on Bitch Planet, Valentine De Landro was talking about how visually, he tries to look outside the window at real life people for inspiration, instead of just redrawing standard superheroes. It didn't always go over all that well, according to De Landro, and one time that particularly stuck out for him was when he was told by editorial to give Sue Storm a bigger rack.

"Make the invisible tits bigger, please!" DeConnick quipped.

Then Deconnick told a Warren Ellis story that she felt fit the mold of the discussion.

At some point, Ellis was working with an artist who kept drawing a female character in such a way that she appeared to not have any internal organs whatsoever.

According to DeConnick, this eventually led to Ellis confronting the artist and making a friendly suggestion along the lines of "you will make it look like she as internal organs, or I will come to your house and nail your feet to the floor, and then burn your house down."
