Is Fox Quietly Ending Lucifer? Season Split Into 3 Parts

In what may be one of the oddest seasons ever, Lucifer returns to the Fox airwaves on Monday January 16th after having been on hiatus since November 28th. This isn't the odd part as many shows go on a winter hiatus now. The weird part is that there will be 3 episodes, running through January 30th and then the show goes on hiatus again until May 1st. At least that is the schedule put forth so far. But fans who just turned in for the newly released trailer may be concerned as it says clearly, "3 Episodes Left", with no other explanation. And this is just after the last episode aired showed Chloe's secret.

Lucifer has been suffering low ratings and the initial hiatus actually came as a bit of a surprise. Episode 11 was original expected to air December 5th, but it was moved back and the time slot was filled with episodes of Showtime at the Apollo. And where the below trailer was originally released after episode 10 air in November, this new version includes the 3 Episodes Left tag that wasn't there before… and it doesn't say left until what.

Is Fox quietly ending Lucifer? Was the early hiatus to give the show time to wrap up the plot threads?  At the TCA press tour yesterday, Fox gave it a Spring premiere date of May 1st, but splitting a season in 3 can't help ratings. 13 episodes will have aired when the show goes on its second hiatus, leaving 9 left in a normal season. If they do all 9, that means the May 1st return would carry them through June.
