Warner Brothers are in a precarious situation with the DCEU. While it certainly has its fans (yours truly included), it is no secret that DC Comics’ movies are lagging in critical reception.
This isn’t lost on Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes. Speaking in an investor’s call (via Variety), Bewkes conceded that the films in the universe have ‘a little room for improvement’. He also addressed that the films in the future might well be going a little lighter in tone. He said:
The DC Comics characters … have a little more lightness in them than maybe what you saw in those movies, so we’re thinking about that.
He did also rightly point out the fincial success of the movies, which have been great, which means the mainstream audiences are responding to these characters in a big way. Just a case of finding exactly where the critics and audience are on a creativly agreeable place.
