In The Light Of Shia LaBeouf/Dan Clowes, Here Is Nick Lyons/Peter Bagge

So the Shia LaBoeuf/Dan Clowes situation continues… but is it worth looking at other comic book strips that have, lets say, inspired films?

Such as Hilda Humphrey (Hellchild), a short film by Nick Lyons, credited as director, author and editor.

That bears quite the similarity to Peter Bagge's Whatever Happened To Babs Bradley from Hate #4.

Now there are differences. Ironically, the short film gets more of a "comic book origin" with the death of the lead's pet dog, and there is some difference in motivation of characters, but beat by beat, from school to pregnancy to abortion to depression to fast food restaurant to pregnancy again to forced marriage, to trailer, to kids, to the supermarket (though throwing in a sexline job) to a burnt out trailer to moving back home to threats of kidnapped kids, to reinvention as an evangelical Christian…

Since I started making enquiries, Nick pulled his film down from Vimeo, but it is still up at YouTube. No credit, no permission, when I talked to Peter Bagge, this was the first he had heard of it. And he is not credited in the film either.

Can someone please tell Buzzfeed?
