Way back in August, Brendon told you that Saoirse Ronan had passed on the role of Wanda Maximoff, The Scarlet Witch, in The Avengers: Age of Ultron. And he told you that Joss Whedon and Marvel Studios had shifted their attention on to Elizabeth Olsen.
He’s too shy to tell you himself, but he was right.
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal today Samuel L Jackson — who has appeared in all but one of the Phase 1 Marvel movies — was talking about something you probably don’t want to know about yet. But he did let slip this interesting quote;
“I don’t think we begin shooting before March of next year. I know we’re shooting in London, that James Spader is Ultron and going to be the bad guy, and that we added Ms. [Elizabeth] Olsen [who will play the Scarlet Witch], but I don’t know what she’s doing, if she’s on the inside or the outside. I haven’t seen a script.”
That, I suspect, is as close as we’re going to get to solid confirmation until Ms. Olsen shows up in an Age Of Ultron trailer a-hexin’ and a-flexin’ in that famous red costume.
Or a suitably redesigned version thereof.
If you’re not familiar with Elizabeth Olsen’s work, she’s best known for 2011’s Martha Marcy May Marlene which saw her nominated for a whole bunch of awards, and for being the younger sister of pop-culture multi-threats Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.
You see? People go on about movie blogs peddling groundless casting rumours, and sometimes they’re right. But not this time. Stick with Brendon. He’ll give you the scoops. Even if he is too shy to tell you himself.
