Scenes Set In Historical Spain In Assassin's Creed Will Be Spoken In Spanish

This is an interesting bit of news.

Not so long ago, Hollywood was pretty adverse to movies having too many scenes involving foreign languages in their films. However, perhaps due to ther growing importance of international audiences, I've noticed more films embrace it in recent years.

And it seems Assassin's Creed is taking that ball and running with it too. It's been revealed that in the film, all of the scenes set in historical Spain will be spoken in Spanish. Speaking in the latest issue of Total Film (via ScreenRant), director Justin Kurzel explained the decision, saying:

I just love the fact [production company] New Regency embraced it. We did play around with English as well, but it was really obvious what you wanted as soon as you went back and started speaking beautiful Spanish. It really adds an exoticness and richness to the film.

This is a pretty bold move, and one that will be fascinating to see play out. Considering Michael Fassbender isn't a native speaker, this seems like it could be a risk, but one that could pay dividends.
