Is The Back To The Future Series A Chiasmus?

Okay, so you may have read the headline and thought: "What's a chiasmus?" If you didn't, then you're way ahead of me and many others. I hadn't heard the word until I saw this new video from Netflix taking a look at the fan theory… called the Lockard Theory… that claims that the full Back to the Future trilogy is just that… a chiasmus.

Lifting the definition from the dictionary: a chaismus is a rhetorical or literary figure in which words, grammatical constructions, or concepts are repeated in reverse order, in the same or a modified form. In other words, the first half of the trilogy is mirrored by the second half and ends the way it began.

I'm not going to try and judge if the trilogy does qualify, the Netflix video does a pretty good job of making the point… but I will definitely try to use the word in social situations. But if my life turns out to be a chiasmus, then at some point I will end up back at the Twin Pines Mall (Puente Hills Mall) watching a movie being made about a Delorean turned into a time machine.
