Star Trek icons Leonard Nimoy and Harve Bennett passed away at the end of February, but their lives and the Trek legacy were celebrated during WonderCon in Anaheim in early April.

A panel called They're Not Really Dead As Long As We Remember Them was hosted by longtime Trekkie and Access Hollywood movie reviewer Scott Mantz.

Mantz started things off by boldly stating that Bennett "saved the Star Trek franchise" when he produced what is often considered the best of all Trek movies in 1982's Wrath of Khan. The critical and commercial success of that film would allow the Star Trek franchise to continue to this day, with various movie and television spin-offs.

Nimoy, of course, gained world-wide popularity and acclaim with his iconic role of Mr. Spock. Panel members at WonderCon reflected on their favorite Spock moments.

Mantz pointed to the wonderful and touching moment at the end of the episode titled "This Side of Paradise," after Spock is infected with strange space spores and falls in love with a beautiful woman.

Spock says, "For the first time in my life, I was happy," Mantz recalled.

Robert Meyer Burnett (Free Enterprise) pointed out to audience members: "It's not that Spock doesn't have emotions. Vulcans have emotions. They learn to control their emotions."

Chase Masterson (Deep Space Nine) mentioned "The Menagerie" as one of her favorite episodes featuring Spock. In that memorable two-part episode, Spock risks his career and his life in trying to help the crippled Captain Pike.

For Mantz, though, one episode stands above the rest, as it does for many Trekkies.

"Whenever I try and preach the gospel to non-Trekkers, I always start with "City on the Edge of Forever."

One of the panel members pointed to Spock's poignant line at the end of that classic episode, after Captain Kirk has to let his love interest die to save millions of lives.

"He knows, doctor, he knows."
