First Official Stills For Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is something of a surprising sequel, mainly because the first film didn't exactly take the box office by storm; it barely broke even and received a less-than-warm critical reception. That said, you should never underestimate the appeal of Nicolas Cage riding around on a motorbike with his head on fire, and so a sequel is on its way.

Thanks to Empire, we can now reveal the first official stills for the film, which also stars Idris Elba, Christopher Lambert and Ciarán Hinds as the Devil. The stills don't seem to reveal anything new about the plot, since all they show is A) Nicolas Cage doing his acting face, B) Idris Elba squinting on a motorbike and C) the Ghost Rider, who we'd already guessed was going to be in the movie.

I'm not getting my hopes up but neither will I condemn this film just yet. Firstly because it stars Nicolas Cage, who has a habit of appearing in terrible films and being the most awesome thing in them, and secondly because Mark Steven Johnson, the writer and director for the first film, is nowhere to be found in the credits for the sequel.

New on the writing team are Seth Hoffman, whose credits include episodes of House, M.D. and Prison Break, and Scott M. Gimple, who penned episodes of the recent sci-fi miniseries FlashForward. In the directing seat are Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, who have previously joined forces on Crank and Gamer.

Has anyone made a "How'd it get burned?!" joke about Ghost Rider yet? No? Excellent.
