Star Trek Comics Relaunch: Original Series Retold In JJ Abrams Continuity

Okay, this is interesting. The events of the JJ Abrams Star Trek movie basically reset the Star Trek continuity from scratch, to free up the film series to tell some very different stories with Kirk, Spock, Bones, Chekov, Sulu, Uhuru, Scotty et al.

And now this new Star Trek universe will be explored by a new ongoing IDW Star Trek comic book, that will reimagine old Star Trek TV episodes in this new continuity.

It will be created with CBS Consumer Products and Star Trek writer/producer Roberto Orci, written by Mike Johnson and artist Stephen Molnar and will begin with a reimagining of the second pilot episode Where No Man Has Gone Before, the third transmitted episode in the original Star Trek series.

The original plot saw the Enterprise leaving the galaxy, to hit an electrical barrier and for two of the crew members to exhibit powerful psychic powers.

But what happens this time is all up in the air.

The first issue will have covers from Tim Bradstreet and David Messina, as well as four variant photo covers, a cover signed by Orci and Johnson and a golden ticket promotion.
