Default First Poster For The Paddington Movie, From The Director Of The Mighty Boosh

Paul King's work on The Mighty Booshwas regularly inventive and always charming. After moving into features with Bunny & the Bull he could also lay claim to poignant and fearless too.

And to hopefully raise the bar even further, King's next film will be an adaptation of Michael Bond's Paddington books. These are light satires on UK middle class manners, seen from the point of view of a lonely, orphaned bear from deepest darkest Peru. They were targeted right at kids but still pretty popular with my generation. We definitely remember the rather winning TV version with great affection.

I include King himself in that last count. He's very obviously a fan. There was an entire scene in Bunny & the Bull that took its design cues from the animated Paddington.

The Paddington film has been officially announced a couple of times, and the last time, Studio Canal also released this poster. I'm a little late in picking it up, but it doesn't seem to have run anywhere else, so here we go.

That's Paddington on the platform at Paddington, the London train station from which he takes his name.

For another look at the bear, here's how he appeared on one of the original books, and then his puppet self from Filmfair's stop-motion TV show.

The draft of thePaddingtonscript I read was by Hamish McColl, and I actually rather enjoyed, for the most part. I dare say many things will have changed in the three years since but Paul King is a very safe pair of hands for this particular project.

Unfortunately the film has been cancelled due to works, they will now be releasing a replacement bus service.

Somehow, without Michael Hordern's snuggling, comforting voice, I'm just not sure this will work for me.
