Default Flashing Back On Green Lantern

So, the first three chapters of the Wrath Of The First Lantern crossover in the Green Lantern titles has a few double splash pages showing histories of Green Lanterns and Guardians.

And if you thought the timelines of Batman and his Robins in the New 52 was impossible to square, Green Lantern only multiplies it. It seems that Guy Gardner becoming Warrior is back in in continuity, as is his Vuldarian persona. No sign of a one punch.

?*I'd say "Emerald Twilight" did happen, and we saw Ganthet give Kyle the ring in the alley in New Guardians #1.?*But the timeline for all this stuff has been truncated.?*Kyle's only been a Green Lantern for about two years, so in my mind, the restoration of Oa and the return of the Guardians and the Corps happened quicker than it seemed pre-relaunch.

I just figure that the Guardians were decimated when Hal went rogue back in the day and became Parallax.?*When the Guardians were restored, Sayd was among them.?*Does that make it seem any clearer??*I wonder if it would be less confusing if Kyle was in his Darryl Banks-era uniform rather than a rookie uniform in that flashback.?*Maybe some better writer than I will make sense of it some day.
    Anyone up to the challenge?

I think he does a pretty good job of explaining it. The stuff they show happened, it just happened in a short amount of time.

People are too hung up on the five year timeline. It's generally been considered a sliding ten year timeline, this just makes it shorter and, since there's a lot less stuff to fit in (even with this and the Robins), it makes sense. Either way, it's comic time, you've always had to squint your eyes to make it work.

Yeagg, GL'S continuity is a mess now, but one thing is certain, Kyle is lossing his hair since he was a baby.

Makes sense to me. In that paragraph alone he kept it cleaner than the Robin problem. The 5 year timeline has been more harmful than good in the New 52 but I don't think it ruins the Green Lantern mythos (especially because I'm just ignoring it)

    How's it a "mess", exactly?

The "problem" is only when people try to fit the old stories into the new continuity. That doesn't work because those stories don't fit, it's a brand new continuity. The stuff we're shown is all that happened. For all we know, Guy Gardner was Warrior for two weeks, and nothing from that series happened.

Isn't it all a mess usually anyway?

Seriously though people need to loosen their continuity jock straps and just enjoy the stories for what they are.

And how are people supposed to do that when the writers keep shoving continuity down readers' throats?

Wasn't Kyle shown to be recruited by one of the guardians and then taken to a fully populized Oa for training in one of the GL zero issues?

This is the issue. I like there to be sort of a general continuity, and then a status quo that makes that continuity mean something. If there is no status quo then all you have are stories servicing the advance of the continuity (if that statement makes sense) - everything is always changing. I love comics but I don't read anything from the big two anymore that has anything to do with a strict adherence to continuity.
